Khatam University to Hold "Introduction to Sustainability" Event

According to the Public Relations and Website Office of Khatam University, this university, as a leading institution in the fields of science and technology and in pursuit of the objectives set out in its strategic plan, with an emphasis on sustainability management as one of the university’s key and fundamental strategies, has embarked on a “Sustainable University” movement. With the academic and moral support of the university president, vice presidents, managers, and experts on the one hand, and in cooperation with Dr. Azar Saemian, Senior Advisor to the University’s Strategic Plan and Iran Management Association, on the other, the university has set out on a sustainability journey, intending to empower talented and capable professors, students, scholars, and researchers through smart, responsible, and committed choices to build a prosperous and sustainable future and protect national resources and interests and the planet Earth.

Given the importance of sustainability and the need to raise awareness, develop related initiatives, and advance its objectives and activities, Khatam University has established a committee to continuously follow up on, coordinate, and guide sustainability-related programs and activities.

Dr. Azar Saemian, Senior Advisor to the Khatam University Strategic Plan and Secretary of Iran Management Association, said in an interview with the Public Relations Office and website of Khatam University: “This movement and commitment are an effort to enhance and align the knowledge, skills, and overall capabilities of all stakeholders within the university. Drawing on the highest-level development policies of leading universities around the world, it seeks to develop the professional capabilities and competencies of professors, students, and all those interested in creativity and in developing intelligent and prudent solutions to the issues and challenges ahead. It aims to provide scientific and practical responses and create new opportunities for scholars in sustainability and for the generation that will build tomorrow.

“What begins today is not merely a series of educational workshops; it is the beginning of a movement—a culture, a way of life in which sustainability moves beyond being a scientific concept and becomes an inseparable part of our everyday attitudes and behavior. It is an invitation to awaken the sense of responsibility rooted within each of us. Sustainability means making intelligent choices today for the tomorrow in which we will live. It means learning how to engage effectively and harmoniously with nature, society, and ourselves. Of course, we are not alone. This journey is part of a global university movement. Like-minded people and fellow travelers from universities around the world, sharing the same ideals and the same firm determination, have embarked on this same green path.”

She added: “This alignment with international universities teaches us that sustainability knows no borders, and that its solutions can emerge only through cooperation, the exchange of ideas, and connections among cultures. On this journey, we are not merely learning concepts; we are embarking on a journey in which theoretical knowledge is transformed into action, ideas into solutions, and aspirations into reality. With every step along this path, we not only illuminate our own future but also light a beacon for generations to come. Together and side by side, we are beginning this constructive, effective, and green movement around the world, because a sustainable future is not a dream but a shared commitment that we will shape together.”

Dr. Saemian continued: “This Khatam University initiative is a comprehensive and interconnected pathway. Along this journey, students will not only learn what sustainability is, but also how to incorporate it into their individual decisions, academic activities, and professional and social responsibilities. They will also learn how to help cities breathe greener and how human and environmental values can flourish alongside one another.”

According to the Senior Advisor to the Khatam University Strategic Plan, some of the key programs planned for the future include:

• Holding training workshops in line with international standards
• Specialized roundtable discussions featuring scholars and experts
• Professional and specialized visits to major national projects
• Publishing books, articles, bulletins, and a variety of sustainability posters
• Supporting impactful research projects and dissertations aimed at national development and sustainability
• A range of webinars to promote a culture of green management and sustainability at the university
• Conducting relevant scientific and practical studies, research, and investigations on sustainability
• Holding creativity, innovation, and scientific technology forums and sessions in support of green management
• Fostering sustainable cultural co-creation through exhibitions and the presentation of individual and collective achievements
• Establishing specialized teams focused on sustainability-related topics
• Cooperating and participating in sustainability projects

Saemian added: “This initiative places particular emphasis on drawing upon the knowledge and expertise of leading sustainability scholars and professors. According to this report, the lecturer for the “Introduction to Sustainability” event will be Dr. Azar Saemian. The event will be held on October 12 for two hours, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Imam Reza Hall, Hakim-e Azam Building, Khatam University.
